Exiting America

I'm in India and like to blog about it.

A Calendar for the New Year

As most of you know, I traveled to South Africa, Lesotho, and Malawi this year as part of a Rotary Group Study Exchange program. As part of an exchange team of 5 from Houston, I functioned as part ambassador from Texas and part witness to the beauty of Southern Africa. I have created a calendar of my pictures in the hopes of sharing some of my experiences with you.

On the front of the calendar you will see a verse from the South African national anthem: Lord, bless Africa, may her spirit rise high up. I chose this because it represents my hope for a very beautiful and complex continent that I have only just begun to explore.

If you would like to purchase a calendar for someone you know, please contact me at sandipruitt@gmail.com. I am charging $20 USD, which represents $8 over the production price, which will be sent to a critically under-funded crisis orphanage in Lilongwe, Malawi. By the end of 2005, it was estimated that over half a million Malawian children had been orphaned by AIDS. Another half million are orphaned due to poverty and famine. As one of the poorest countries in the world, where the population numbers about 13 million and the life expectancy is only 40 years, every little bit we contribute can make a big impact.

Check out these pics of the calendar:
